What helps with Autistic Burnout?

What is autistic burnout?
The most widely cited definition comes from Raymaker et al. (2020):
"A syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic life stress and a mismatch of expectations and abilities without adequate supports, characterized by pervasive, long-term exhaustion, loss of function, and reduced tolerance to stimulus."

1. Reduce demands (most important)
This is consistently the strongest recommendation.
Burnout generally doesn't resolve because someone becomes better at coping—it resolves because the load decreases.
Demand reduction may include:
- reducing work hours
- taking medical leave
- cancelling nonessential commitments
- simplifying routines
- asking others to handle executive function tasks
- lowering expectations temporarily

2. Reduce masking
